Earth hour
On March 30, people around the world came together for Earth Hour, an initiative to switch off our lights for an hour to show that each one of us can have a positive impact in the fight against climate change.
It is currently the biggest celebration on the planet, which has already generated a number of environmental commitments around the world, from forest protection to the creation of marine protected areas and the enactment of laws in favor of a safer climate for all.
At Arcos Dorados, we have spent more than a decade building a sustainable value chain and we do everything in our power to reduce the environmental impact. Under our “Recipe of the future”, we have set up the following programs: packaging and recycling, sustainable meat, youth employment, child nutrition and climate change.
Thus, as part of the Earth Hour, we spread our actions throughout the week on our social media networks to live in a more sustainable and respectful way.
- PAPER MONDAYS
67% of paper packaging in all regions comes from sustainable sources and we work day after day to reach 100%.
- RECYCLING TUESDAYS
Recycling is one of the actions with the greatest impact on the preservation of the planet. We have the necessary guidelines for sorting of all types of waste.
- FAUNA WEDNESDAYS
It is important for us to ensure animal welfare. Therefore, we have a specific committee that acts under the guidelines of the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO).
- WATER THURSDAYS
We have a native program to reduce the consumption of drinking water and energy by reusing the condensed water generated by air conditioners. This program is already being rolled out in 454 restaurants in 8 Latin American countries and we are continuing our efforts to extend it to all our stores.
- OIL FRIDAYS
We have an oil recycling program in our restaurants. Once its useful life in the kitchens is finished, they are collected and processed to be marketed as biodiesel for industrial boilers.
- SWITCHING-OFF SATURDAYS
- SAVING SUNDAYS
Yesterday we joined Earth Hour by switching off our external lights of the restaurants. It was a symbolic gesture to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the environment. If we all play our part, we can help save our planet.
